Cleaning cartridge explanation *

Instructions for using cleaning cartridges

For Brother printers:

  1. Remove the cartridge from its packaging and remove the yellow tape.
  2. Then remove the orange plastic cover (if any).
  3. Replace the ink cartridges in the printer with the cleaning cartridges.
  4. On the display or in the printer menu, select Ink or Ink Management and select Cleaning *.
  5. Select whether you want to clean only black, colour only or all printheads.
  6. After you have cleaned the printheads twice, leave the printer for about 1 hour.
  7. Then clean the printheads again.
  8. Now put the normal ink cartridges back into the printer. Clean the printheads once more.
  9. Then print a test page to see if the problem has been resolved. This is done as follows:

    - Press the Ink or Ink Management or Menu on the control panel or on the display.
    - Press the up / down navigation key and select Test Print / Test Page, then press Menu / Select or Select or OK.
    - Press the up / down navigation key and select Print quality, then press Menu / Select or Select or OK.
    - Press Start Colour. The print quality test sheet is then printed.

  10. Does the page look like the one below? Then everything is fine.

  11. Are there sections missing on the page, as below?

  12. Then leave the printer standing for 24 hours with the cleaning cartridges and then clean the printheads again.
  13. If the printer still does not print properly after using the cleaning cartridge, it probably means that the printhead has dried too much. This can then no longer be cleaned.

* Exactly how to clean the printheads and print a test page varies from printer to printer - please refer to your printer's manual to find out how it works for your printer.

Why use a cleaning cartridge?

If the printer is idle for too long, the ink will dry up and clog the nozzles. In addition, these channels can get gradually clogged even through regular use. When clogged too much, it can affect print quality.

If you clean the printheads with regular ink cartridges in the printer, the printer will simply allow the ink to flow through the channels to clear the dried ink. Instead, if you do the cleaning with 123ink cleaning cartridges, a cleaning fluid that is better at removing dried ink will flow through the channels. The result is that the colour will come out as it should, without wasting ink during cleaning.

How do I store the cleaning cartridge?

Wipe the cleaning cartridge with a piece of kitchen paper. The cleaning cartridge can then be covered with a piece of tape at the bottom. Keep the cartridges dry and in the  dark until it is time to use them again.

You can clean the printer approximately 10 times with a cleaning cartridge.
