HP toners: additional information

Message: "Used cartridge"

After installing the house brand toner, the message "Used cartridge" may be displayed on the printer display. This message is caused by the recycled original HP chip on the toner. The chip has already been used on another toner. You can ignore the message. All you have to do is press OK. (Example message, this varies per printer type)

The status page indicates that the toner is empty

Because the chip of this toner has already been used, the actual content of the toner is no longer measured. You can ignore empty messages on the status page and/or on the printer display. If the toner cartridge is almost empty, you will notice this automatically due to the declining print quality. Print a test page to check the status of the toner.

What is the function of the chip?

The chip is used for colour recognition. The printer checks whether a black toner has actually been placed in the place for the black toner. Another colour toner will not be accepted at that location, because that would not produce good print results.

The printer may display an -X or -Y toner as -A or -L

The recycled HP chips in our own-brand toners come from both high-capacity and standard-capacity toners. With original HP toners, there is a difference in content and capacity between these types, with the 123ink own-brand there is not. Both toner types from the 123ink own-brand have the same content and print capacity and fit in the same printer types. You can therefore ignore the -X, -Y, -A or -L.
