Why choose an Inkjet printer?

Inkjet printers are an affordable, compact choice for the home or office. Their compact size, quick start up time and friendly price tag make them the perfect home printer or small office printer. Print important work documents, photos, homework material or college work with an inkjet printer.

We have summarised the advantages of an inkjet printer below.

  • Inkjet printers suit smaller print volumes so they are an economical choice for home or small office use.

  • If you are looking to print colour documents or colour images, colour inkjet printers are cheaper than colour laser printers.

  • Inkjet printers produce vibrant and high-quality colour documents and images and can print on a variety of media including glossy photo paper to print photos, labels and cards.

  • Ink cartridges are also cheaper than toners, so your overall printing costs are less.

  • Inkjet printers require minimal maintenance compared to laser printers.

Need to make more prints? A laser printer might suit your needs better.

How do inkjet printers work?

Inkjet printers spray thousands of droplets of ink onto a piece of paper and combine colours to form an image or text. The colours and sizes of these droplets can be adjusted to produce sharp, photo-realistic images.

What are some printer features to look out for?

You can look out for the features listed below to help inform your decision.

What does ADF mean?

  • ADF stands for Automatic Document Feeder and it means that the paper is fed into the printer automatically, eg. copying or scanning without having to manually insert paper, saving you valuable time.

What does Duplex mean?

  • With Duplex, you can print on both sides of the document, a very effective way to save paper and money.

What does PPM mean for print speeds?

  • PPM stands for Pages Per Minute, i.e. how many pages the inkjet printer can print per minute. Usually, black and white (mono) documents will be distinguished from colour documents when calculating because it takes longer to print a colour document..

Do you require WiFi? (a wireless printer)

  • This means that you can connect your inkjet printer to your local wireless network without a USB cable or Ethernet cable. WiFi printers do not need cables and you can place your printer anywhere there is coverage, providing you with more freedom.

Do you require an All-In-One Inkjet or Multifunctional Printer?

  • An All-In-One or Multifunctional Printer can print, scan, copy and, in some cases, also fax. You will notice some printers say (3 in 1) or (4 in 1) after the printer model, which is what it refers to.

Do you require mobile printing?

  • Some Inkjet printers come with the ability to print from your mobile device, a very convenient feature for busy schedules.

What size format will you be printing?

  • Format refers to document size, if it says A4 inkjet printer, then it means you can print using A4 paper, if you require an inkjet printer that can print larger sizes, e.g an A3 inkjet printer, then it is A3 paper that you will need.

Choosing ink for your inkjet printer

Inkjet printers print both sharp black and white documents and high-quality, vibrant colour images. You can buy all four ink cartridges for your inkjet printer including black, cyan, magenta and yellow, to make up all of the colour combinations required.

You can save money on your ink costs by opting for a multipack and in particular, a 123ink compatible multipack. You will find a recommended ink cartridge, usually a multipack of ink under each inkjet printer, that saves you money on ink costs compared to opting for individual inks or for an original cartridge.  Common questions

What is an inkjet printer?

An inkjet printer works by using ink cartridges. Ink cartridges operate via a printhead. The printhead sprays microscopic colour droplets of ink via a nozzle onto the paper to make up the image or text. This results in vivid colour details, hence why inkjet printers are recommended for printing images.

What are inkjet printers best for?

Inkjet printers are best for home use for printing documents and images in colour, be it homework, flight tickets or holiday photos. They can also work well in a small office or for artists/photographers printing photos or prints due to their high colour details and vibrancy.

Which inkjet printer is best for home use?

There are many models of inkjet printers that are suitable for home use. Some useful features to consider are the size of the printer, whether it is a WiFi printer that can be shared with the whole family, or if it can scan and copy as well as print. Another tip is to look for an inkjet printer that has cheaper ink cartridges. We advise opting for 123ink’s own-brand ink cartridges to save on ink costs.
